1,000 Pages!

Posted by Joel Heck on Sunday, January 3, 2016
Happy New Year! With this post I have reached the last of my numerical goals. The chronology now has more than one hundred sources, more than a half million words, and more than a thousand pages (not to mention more than 3,000 footnotes, but that was never a goal). The thousand pages have been a long established goal, far less valuable than the actual content, but still symbolic of a minimum of value. This version of the chronology also adds a good deal more from Warren's diaries in the year 1967, some information about the five times that one of the Lewis brothers attended a concert performed by the Oxford Bach Choir (with whom my wife and I once sung while on an Oxford sabbatical), and my best thoughts about when God's four chess moves described in Surprised by Joy took place. I will be spelling out those dates and the reasons for those dates in my forthcoming book, C. S. Lewis, Atheist. I am hoping that it will be published in 2016. And, of course, the honorary doctorate given by the University of Dijon on Oct. 6, 1962, remains on the chronology, as previously noted.

This is the latest Lewis chronology:

The file that appears below lists all works of C. S. Lewis in chronological order (now 472 in number, one more than the previous version because of the addition of the brief "Undergraduate Criticism" from 1960) in the location where they were first published or delivered (if spoken) as far as I am able to determine. Corrections are welcome. This version, slightly revised and added on March 18, 2017, includes works listed in the bibliography of Adam Barkman's C. S. Lewis & Philosophy as a Way of Life. It also includes the recently discovered (by Christopher Marsh) "A Christmas Sermon for Pagans."
