Skemp Memorial Lecture

Posted by Joel Heck on Monday, September 2, 2019
This version contains several changes due to Bruce R. Johnson, “The Efforts of C. S. Lewis to Aid British Prisoners of War during World War II.” I have an entry in November 1933 on Virginia Woolf and Isaiah Berlin. There are also several letters and many book reviews incorporated from Stephanie Derrick’s The Fame of C. S. Lewis. Stephanie also led me to find information on the Skemp Memorial Lecture which Lewis gave on October 7, 1943 at the University of Bristol. It was Lewis's essay on "Addison." And a careful rereading of Surprised by Joy provided me with some additional notes. There are about two thousand more words and five additional pages in length.

I have decided to include below almostall of the Spotlights that I have posted thus far, since they are often important, but little known, events in the life of C. S. Lewis. That file appears below, in case some readers have missed some of the previous postings. There are seven postings in that file, and I invite people to submit a candidate for the next posting.

The file that appears below lists all works of C. S. Lewis in chronological order (now 528 in number) in the location where they were first published or delivered (if spoken) as far as I am able to determine. Corrections are welcome. This version, slightly revised and added on May 13, 2020, includes a corrected date for "Transposition" on June 9, 1946.
