Warren Lewis's Diary

Posted by Joel Heck on Wednesday, August 22, 2012
This new version of "Chronologically Lewis" now has about 13,000 more words, and about 20 more pages, than the previous version, including new information from a couple of weeks in September 1949 when Warren was on a holiday in Ireland and especially extensive notes from January 1931 and January-August 1933, including two walking tours that Warren took with Jack. The good news is that there is now a lot more information; the bad news is that it is not all that important, since it does not come from the heart of Jack's writing career (the decade of the 1940s). Adding material about Warren also adds information about Jack, so that makes it more valuable, of course. More bad news includes the fact that I have read all of the diaries of Warren from 1950 through 1966, so there will be little information to be added to the last 14 years of Jack's life. I have also added a "Legend" to the beginning, which gives notes about regular events that happened in the same way at different points in the Lewis brothers' lives. That can give a person additional information about some dates that is not included there. Those routines changed, so be careful not to overgeneralize. However, much remains to be gleaned from the period between September 1933 and August 1949.

As always (this has happened several times, for which I am grateful), send me information that I can add to this database if you run across previously unrecorded events in either brother's life or if you can correct an error. I was able to correct one error this time by reading the more complete diary of Warren. And, if you think of it, send me a note when you find something in this database that is useful for your work. Those comments are my reward. Write to HeckYes@aol.com.

Size : 9169.056 Kb
Type : pdf

The file that appears below lists all works of C. S. Lewis in chronological order (now 472 in number, one more than the previous version because of the addition of the brief "Undergraduate Criticism" from 1960) in the location where they were first published or delivered (if spoken) as far as I am able to determine. Corrections are welcome. This version, slightly revised and added on March 18, 2017, includes works listed in the bibliography of Adam Barkman's C. S. Lewis & Philosophy as a Way of Life. It also includes the recently discovered (by Christopher Marsh) "A Christmas Sermon for Pagans."
