Oxford Gazette lecture lists

Posted by Joel Heck on Wednesday, May 19, 2010
This new file, dated May 18, 2010, has 13,000 more words than the previous version, which means a lot more information about what Lewis did when and where. I have added information about the lectures that Lewis gave during his tenure at Oxford University. There are some flaws, most notably an uncertainty about when certain terms ended. The start of term is listed in the Oxford Gazette, but not the end of term. End of term dates are available elsewhere, but this often meant that Lewis seemed to have lectured for a lot more than eight weeks, especially in the Trinity Term. I am in the process of seeking the lecture lists for Cambridge University, so I can add them also. In the meantime, some significant gaps have been filled in our understanding of what Lewis did when and where.

The file that appears below lists all works of C. S. Lewis in chronological order (now 528 in number) in the location where they were first published or delivered (if spoken) as far as I am able to determine. Corrections are welcome. This version, slightly revised and added on May 13, 2020, includes a corrected date for "Transposition" on June 9, 1946.

This file describes what is happening in Oxford, Cambridge, the UK, and Europe at the time that Lewis writes his various poems, essays, and books, dividing the life and writings of Lewis by academic topic, i.e. English, Philosophy, History, etc.
