Proofreading Done!

Today I completed the proofreading of all 982 pages of this chronology. Boring work, but helpful to the accuracy, completeness, and readability of the text. Time to celebrate!! Throughout I have searched online for various names and places, adding some informative details about such people and places, thereby connecting the narrative more closely with the lives of Warren and Jack Lewis. I have noticed during this proofreading the attribution of honorary degrees to C. S. Lewis in five different places, two of which are suspect because they only list the year, not the day and month of the degree. He is alleged to have received an honorary degree at the University of Dijon and at the University of Lyon in 1962 and 1963 respectively. I am guessing that he received one of these, but not the other. (It is, of course, possible that he received neither.) First, the University of Dijon is actually part of the University of Bourgogne. Secondly, the years are so similar that one wonders if a person's handwriting might have confused a 2 and a 3. Plus Dijon and Lyon are both the same length, both ending in "on," and both contain a consonant (j or y) that drops below the line in the middle of the word. Plus, one wonders if a flowery handwriting might make a capital D look like a capital L. My guess is that someone read Lyon 1963 as Dijon 1962 and that letters (written by my students) to these two universities will learn that one of these happened and the other did not.

The file that appears below lists all works of C. S. Lewis in chronological order (now 528 in number) in the location where they were first published or delivered (if spoken) as far as I am able to determine. Corrections are welcome. This version, slightly revised and added on May 13, 2020, includes a corrected date for "Transposition" on June 9, 1946.

This file describes what is happening in Oxford, Cambridge, the UK, and Europe at the time that Lewis writes his various poems, essays, and books, dividing the life and writings of Lewis by academic topic, i.e. English, Philosophy, History, etc.
