Warren, 1925-1927

This entry includes Volume VIII of Warren Lewis's diary, which is entitled "1925-7. Colchester, Woolwich, and a Voyage to the Far East." It contains mostly Warren's diary entries about his own work with very little about Jack, except for a last day together on April 6 before Warren left on the S.S. Derbyshire from Southampton. Warren wrote a few letters to Jack and to his father, but there is not much new information about his more famous brother. I had hoped there would be some clues to Jack's atheism in Warren's diary during these years, but in that I was disappointed. I have also included mention of a previously unpublished letter that Jack wrote in Old English to Nevill Coghill, probably in March 1926. George Musacchio will have an article in VII about this letter, which was written shortly after the rejection of Dymer by a publisher he calls Mullanings. This version is more than 12,000 words longer than the previous one, and there are now 834 pages in this chronology, fifteen more than the previous version.

The file that appears below lists all works of C. S. Lewis in chronological order (now 528 in number) in the location where they were first published or delivered (if spoken) as far as I am able to determine. Corrections are welcome. This version, slightly revised and added on May 13, 2020, includes a corrected date for "Transposition" on June 9, 1946.

This file describes what is happening in Oxford, Cambridge, the UK, and Europe at the time that Lewis writes his various poems, essays, and books, dividing the life and writings of Lewis by academic topic, i.e. English, Philosophy, History, etc.
