Some years ago I was working on a book manuscript that ended up too technical for publication. It contains some valuable information, which I style as "The Intellectual History of Oxford and Cambridge during the Lewis Years." It deals with what was going on in those two cities and universities while Lewis was alive, explaining some of the reasons for what and why he wrote. Download it as a Word file, search for what you need, and document it in your footnotes. The manuscript is divided by academic discipline: history, religion, English, social sciences, education, the arts, etc.

I just completed a written transcript, as best as I can make out the words, of the 90-minute BBC version of  Shadowlands, with Joss Ackland as C. S. Lewis and Claire Bloom as Joy Davidman. Print a copy and follow along as you watch this movie, made for television. This September 2013 version supersedes a previous version, which was of the 73-minute version of the movie.

The following document is a chapter by chapter summary of Lewis' 1947 book, Miracles. It is designed to make it easier to understand the book, and it can be read alongside of the book itself for the most benefit.

To download a set of discussion questions on Mere Christianity, click below. You have my permission to use these discussion questions in a Bible Class or other setting. A leader's guide is available for the person who wants to use this set of questions in a class. Write to me at joel.heck@concordia.edu. The best way to use this guide, in my opinion, is for people to purchase the book and agree to read 3-5 chapters per week. Then come together and use the discussion questions as a guide for discussing the chapters read in the past week.

The best way to use this guide, in my opinion, is for people to purchase the book and agree to read 3-5 letters per week. Another way would be to use the new recording by Andy Serkis of The Screwtape Letters, projecting the words of the letters on PowerPoint or having people follow along in their copy of the book. Then discuss.

The military record of Warren Hamilton Lewis, Jack's older brother, appears below. I used it to write my article on Warren for "The  Chronicle of the Oxford University C. S. Lewis Society." I have transcribed the documents that the Army Personnel Centre sent at my request, and they appear in a pdf document. If you wish, I can scan the documents to assure their authenticity and upload them, upon request.
